Overview

WHAT?

NGO Darpan is an initiative by NITI Ayog which came into effect from 01.01.2015. It is a platform through which Voluntary Organizations (VOs) / Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) can enroll centrally and can apply for various schemes of Ministries/Government Bodies. This is a facility offered by the NITI Aayog in association with National Informatics Centre to bring greater interaction between government & voluntary sector and foster better transparency, efficiency and accountability. The Portal facilitates VOs/NGOs to obtain a system generated Unique ID The Unique ID is mandatory to apply for grants under various schemes of Ministries/Departments/Governments Bodies.

WHY?

Registration under NGO Darpan is mandatory in case NGOs wants to avail the benefits of grants under various schemes of Ministries/Departments/ Governments Bodies.

It is also mandatory in case the NGOs are accepting any foreign contribution from any country outside India under the provisions of Foreign (Contribution and Regulation) Act, 2010 (FCRA).

Voluntary Organizations (VOs) / Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs)

Voluntary organizations (VOs) / Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) include organizations engaged in public service, based on ethical, cultural, social, economic, political, religious, spiritual, philanthropic or scientific & technological considerations.

VOs / NGOs generally have the following features:

They are private, i.e., separate from Government

They do not return profits generated to their owners or directors

They are self-governing, i.e., not controlled by Government

They are registered organizations or informal groups, with defined aims and objectives

In India a Voluntary Organization / Non Governmental Organization shall include the following:

Trusts registered under Indian Trust Act,1882

Societies registered under Societies Registration Act, 1860

Section - 25 Company registered under the Companies Act, 1956

Section-8 Company registered of the Companies Act, 2013.

Registration under NGO Darpan is done through online portal provided by NITI Ayog:

Step -1: Sign Up

Firstly an account is created on the online portal www.ngodarpan.gov.in

Step - 2: Online Form

Once the account has been created application form shall be filled up.

Step - 3: Documents

Documents shall be attached along with the form.

Step - 4: Verification

Once the form has been submitted the department shall verify the details filed in the form

Step - 5: Unique ID

After verification, if everything is found satisfactory Unique ID shall be allotted to the applicant.

Step - 6: Activation

After getting Unique ID, an email shall be sent to the email id entered at the time of form submission for the activation link which can be used to activate the account.
